Paying for Care Home Care
Several factors affect who has to pay for care home care and how much they have to pay.
In general, there are three types of care home resident:
- Fully funded residents, who are eligible to have their fees paid in full by the NHS or another body. In practice this is only a relatively small number of residents.
- Supported residents, who receive help with fees from the local authority. Normally those with no means, or whose means have been depleted by paying fees.
- Self funded residents, who pay all their fees themselves. A high proportion of residents.
There are different rules and practices for supported clients and self funders.
